Profile of the College Principal

Elder Dr. Peter Ofori Atakorah is the tenth of eleven (11) children to Opanin Kwame Atakorah and Obaapanin Ama Adutwumwaa all from Kofiase in the Ashanti Region. Both are in blessed memory.

Early Life and Education

Peter started schooling at Otuasekan Primary School in Kofiase and continued at Continuation Middle School, in Kofiase. He completed his secondary education at then Sekyereman, now St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mampong – Ashanti, where he obtained the GCE Ordinary Level in 1992. After completing St. Joseph’s Seminary, Elder Peter’s desire to become a professional teacher led him to Mampong Technical College of Education from 1992 to 1995 where he obtained Certificate ‘A’ (3-Year Post –Sec). As a young teacher, Peter never rested on his oars. He wrote and obtained G.C.E. ‘A’ Level Certificate in 1998 as a private candidate.

Working Experience and Further Studies

After his professional training, Peter was posted to Dwaaho, in the Ahafo Ano North District. He taught there for four (4) years and left for further studies. From 1999 to 2002, he was admitted to study at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Cape Coast. He offered a Bachelor of Education in Arts degree. After his first degree, he was posted to Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, where he served as a housemaster. He spent one year there and was later transferred to Adu Gyamfi Senior High School (ADGASS) in 2003. At ADGASS, his hard work, dedication and commitment to duty caught the attention of the then Headmaster, Mr. Isaac K. Nsowah, and he was made a form master in 2005. He was later appointed as the Dean of Students and became Senior Housemaster from 2005-2011.

Peter’s quest to rise higher in education rekindled him to continue his education. From 2008 to 2010, he entered UCC again and was awarded a Master of Education (Educational Administration).

Dr. Peter Ofori Atakorah has always demonstrated great zeal and commitment to his work. While teaching at ADGASS, a vacancy for Assistant Headmastership was declared in the school, he applied and was shortlisted for an interview. By the grace of God, he was successful and appointed the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics at ADGASS in 2011.

In 2013, when the two districts of the SDA Church in Agona, realized the need to set up a mixed college of education, Peter played active roles and was a member of the committee that was formed to see to the establishment of the College. Due to his hard work and dedication, the Committee found him fit for the position of Principal of the College. He, therefore, became the first Principal of the College.

In September, 2017, when the government absorbed the College into the public system, he applied to be considered and after a successful interview, he was officially appointed as the substantive Principal in November, 2018, by the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE).   

Academic Engagement

The urge to be successful and to climb higher on the academic ladder pushed him on. He proceeded to the University of Central Nicaragua, Nicaragua, in 2013, offering PhD in Education. He graduated as a PhD holder in 2020. He has a number of publications and articles to his credit. He has also attended numerous conferences, chaired and facilitated countless workshops and has been a leading voice on some local, regional and national platforms. Elder Dr. Peter Ofori Atakorah is an examiner for the subject, Government and has risen to team leader.

Church/Community: Leadership Positions, Boards and Committees Served 

Eld. Dr. Atakorah, as he is affectionately called, has not only focused on academic life. His hope and trust have always been in the Lord Almighty. He has and is holding prominent church positions in the Adventist Church and other positions in the secular world. Some of them are enumerated below:

Personal and Family Life

In his private life, Eld. Dr. Atakorah is jovial and easily cracks jokes. In all his dealings, however, Elder Dr.  Peter Ofori Atakorah is fair and firm. In view of this, people who have worked with him have nicknamed him, “Man of Justice”.

He is married to Ms. Naomi Donkor, an English Language tutor. He is blessed with five children, one male and four females.
